Mothering Sunday

Mothers – those incredibly special, overworked, much undervalued, pillars of the family who we so often take for granted! (How many people do YOU know who will put up with being screamed at, weed and pooed on and kept up at all hours and not get paid and that’s just when you are a baby?!!)

Creating something special, at whatever age you may be is a real MUST – to say thank you for the hours of work, effort, patience and love that they give us. Invite the grandmothers too or even the Aunts!

Mothering Sunday

Clearly a weekend away, with someone else to do the house cleaning afterwards and hopefully the cooking and preparation too would be perfect! I know that the houses at Chichester Self catering are ideally suited to families staying and enjoying all the facilities that the area offers so this may be an option for you. We are pet friendly too so the dog can come too.

Birdhamchurch entrance.treeFor some the day must start by going to Church and the two most local churches are both very friendly and welcoming. (C of E) with a Catholic and an Evangelical church both in Selsey too. Of course you may like to go to the Chichester Cathedral Service too and be really awed!

If you go to St James’ at Birdham – take a close look at the amazing tree!!

For others the day is made treasurable by the little ones gifts and their joy at giving, often bought with their meagre pocket money – a pot of primulas or bunch of daffodils. I think it is such a shame that the prices go up so much just for this weekend – so unfair for children! Sometimes the gift is a homemade card – and we try to make sure that if a family is staying there is paper and crayons in the house for them to get creative with.

If you want to get out and about of course many opt for a family Sunday lunch. I can recommend our local – The Anchor in Sidlesham – the carvery is superb. But spaces are limited so pre-book – 01243 641373 PO20 7QU.

Another more unusual option is to have a trip on the Chichester Canal – a beautiful

gentle trip on a barge to Hunston, where you pass under the bridge that Constable drew Chichester Cathedral from at sunset! magical! chichestercanal.org.uk

A walk on the beach is also popular – weather permitting. If you want to stay away from the crowds how about going to Church Norton. It is on Pagham Harbour – and much quieter than many other areas too.

If you are interested in having a weekend break away from the hustle and bustle of town, or just want to have enough space to get all the family together (for a change) then give Gayle a call to make your reservation. 07769 746113
